One of the most popular PGA Tour stops is coming up soon.  May 7-11, 2009 is The Players Championship at TCP Sawgrass, one of the most anticipated golf tournaments of the year.  With almost 10 million dollars up for grabs, this is one of the biggest stops for the PGA Tour.  The TPC Sawgrass course was specially built to host The Players Championship and is the permanent home for this very special match.

The TPC Sawgrass was built to favor no particular type of player or playing style.  This makes it an excellent choice for this championship match between players.  The aim was to make the course balanced between short, medium, and long holes, and to offer both right and left dog legs.  This attention to detail helps to make this a very unbiased course.

The TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course was made to allow spectators to see.  The sloping mounds that are up to 30 feet high give a special view to the spectators that many other golf courses do not offer.  Much like a baseball or football stadium, these mounds offer an unobstructed view that allows spectators to watch the action.  These mounds are found around the 1st and 10th tees, as well as the greens in holes 9, 16, 17, and 18.

One of the most recognizable holes in golf is played at TPC Sawgrass.  This is the par-3, 17 hole of the Stadium Course.  It is known the world over as “the island green” and is known as the TPC Sawgrass’ signature hole.
