Sean O’Hair is a professional golfer born in 1982 in Texas. Unlike many other pro golfers seen today, O’Hair did not attend college or play college golf. He turned pro before his senior year of high school, in 1999, soon enrolling in the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Florida.
Although Sean’s father, Marc O’Hair, was an early supporter of Sean’s golf game, and invested in his professional development, it is said that he subjected Sean to too much pressure. Father and son have not spoken since 2002 except at Sean’s wedding in December of 2002. Sean’s family includes his wife Jackie and their two children, Molly and Luke.
O’Hair entered the PGA Tour Qualifying School for several years beginning in 1999, but was unsuccessful until 2004. During this time, he played on several developmental tours, with limited success. Finally in 2004 he made it through Q-School, and entered the PGA Tour to great success. In his first year on the tour, his earnings came to nearly $2.5 million dollars. Sean was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2005. His first of three major tour wins to date came in 2005 at the John Deere Classic, where his -16 score gave him a margin of victory of just one stroke.
By March 2006, Sean was the youngest man to be named on the top fifty of the Official World Golf Rankings. Although his 2006 was less successful, he continued to play well in major events. His best results in the majors during 2006 were placing 26th in the U.S. Open, 14th at the Open Championship, and 12th at the PGA Championship in 2006.
During the 2008 PGA Tour, O’Hair won the PODS Championship, his second PGA tour win. He nearly won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2009, entering the final round with a five stroke lead. Ultimately, he lost by one stroke to Tiger Woods, who birdied the 72nd hole.
In the top 10 in The Masters in 2009 in 2006, in 2006. In early May of 2009, he won his third PGA tour event, the Quail Hollow Championship, surviving two late bogies during his final round to win by one stroke.
